20 years ago today- Cinco de Mayo 2006- my husband

20 years ago today- Cinco de Mayo 2006- my husband commissioned into the United States Army.
We had just started dating a couple of months prior, and I literally had absolutely NO idea what I was getting into.
Like, zero.
I just knew I loved the guy.
Fast-forward 20 years later, and I have to say that it’s been an incredible journey, and I am so beyond proud of what this man has accomplished.
And he’s not done yet.
Anyone who knows him is well- aware of the quiet badassery that this man possesses.
I’d do it all again, and I’m proud as heck to be his wife.
I’ve had a front row seat to see how amazing our military is, and we are a lucky nation to have so many incredible men and women volunteer to protect our freedom.
Congrats to this man on 20 years of service to our country, and hopefully he’ll be home soon! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

I love this picture that my friend took of us at the horse show this past weekend.
On the phone with my deployed husband, while showing his horse, drinking a Coors Banquet 2x4 (not a tall boy like I had originally thought).
Anyway, this is my current life situation.
But my husband will be home soon!
And reclaim his horse. 😂

“Why compete if you’re not going to win?”
I oddly get asked that question a lot.
Here’s the thing, winning is awesome. Everyone wants to win, right? No matter what the competition is, it’s what you strive for, right?
Not always.
For me, horseback riding will always be my favorite thing (aside from radio and music) and just getting to ride, to have good horses, and the opportunity to ride in a competition at all is fun for me.
Riding is a privilege, as is being able to own and properly care for horses.
Horse shows are a way for me to work my horses towards a goal and hopefully consistently improve.
I also love the challenge and all the people I get to meet who love the same thing as I do.
I don’t have a $30,000 horse, nor can I ride 5 days a week. Horse training is very expensive, and hauling out for lessons is not something I have time for just now.
I’m a working mother with my own business.
With my husband deployed, anytime I leave home without my kid, I have to pay for a sitter.
It’s not easy to put the time in to be the best.
And that’s ok.
I can only do so much, and I realize that.
The fact that I get to do something that brings me joy and fills my cup is all I need.
I may have way more ribbons that aren’t blue, but whatever.
I’m happy.
I get to be in the game, and that’s all that matters.
I’m lucky, and I realize that.
You do your best, and that’s all you can do.
As long as that cup stays filled, you’re good.
Cheers to anyone who can appreciate the real reason why you do what you do, winning be damned.
Happy = winning in my book. 🏆🏆🏆

Actually, my high school didn’t have a prom until a few years ago.
Instead, we had a Jr./Sr. Banquet, as dancing wasn’t allowed.
It was all very lame and “Footloosey”.
But we still got to dress up.
