I saw a bumper sticker today in traffic that said

I saw a bumper sticker today in traffic that said “Advocate Like a Mother”.
That hit me hard.
After 15 months of testing, therapies, ear tubes, being told that Brandon had everything from Duchennes Muscular Dystrophy to Cerebal Palsy to severe Autism… he recently got a proper diagnosis through Occupational Therapy at Children’s Hospital.
He’s got Sensory Processing Disorder- which he’s on the Sensory Seeking side.
Basically, he gets over-excited in new environments, and wants to run off and explore it ALL. He also loves to touch everything and smell everything.
Part of this is due to not hearing properly prior to this Summer, and having benign congenital hypotonia (low muscle tone).
So, he is extra sensory seeking due to not having full hearing or physical abilities.
His prognosis is great. He’s getting better every day, and is the happiest, funniest guy. He loves people, loves new adventures, and is one big pile of love and fun.
He’s also extremely musical, and is a budding guitarist and singer. Kid has great vocal pitch and control, and a great memory. He started pre-school early with an IEP, and his teachers say he’s very intelligent and knows a lot. We’re just working on getting the language out, as he’s behind due to the lack of hearing for the first 3.5 years of his life.
What caused this?
Nothing.
It’s just the way the cookie crumbled.
He’s a rockstar, and this momma has spent the past 15 months looking under every rock and following her gut to figure out what exactly is going on with B.
It’s great to finally be heard, and know that Brandon is on the right track.
That’s what moms do.
We advocate for those who we love the most.
Brandon is so loved, and is the light of my life.
To all the mommas out there in similar situations… keep fighting. Don’t let bad doctors get you down. You know your child better than anyone.
Most of all, ENJOY your little one.

This guy makes it hard not to.
Advocate like a mother, dammit!
