Little Big Town and Sugarland Perform at 2024 CMT Awards

Last night was the 2024 CMT Awards.

Of course, it was overshadowed by Morgan Wallen getting arrested on three Felony charges for being a drunk idiot- more on that here: https://www.whiskeyriff.com/2024/04/08/morgan-wallen-arrested-on-multiple-felony-charges-after-allegedly-throwing-a-chair-off-the-roof-of-eric-churchs-nashville-bar-chiefs/

But before that craziness went down, the CMT Awards took place in Austin, TX, and my favorite performance of the night was Little Big Town with the reunited Sugarland covering Phil Collins’ “Take Me Home”:

Color me impressed!

But then again, I always am when it comes to Little Big Town and Sugarland.

They always bring it live, which can’t be said for all artists.

Also, Karen Fairchild, Kimberly Schlapman, and Jennifer Nettles all look amazing. Talk about aging goals!

And it looks like this wasn’t just a quick reunion for Sugarland, as they’re on the road with Little Big Town this year.

Lynyrd Skynyrd Tribute at CMT Music Awards

Last night my husband and I were watching the CMT Music Awards, and I ended up going to bed a little early. It was a long weekend, and I was just done.  While I was getting ready to fall asleep, my husband had to run upstairs and tell me that I missed a badass performance (Of course I did) featuring lots of legends doing a tribute to one of my favorite Classic Rock bands Lynyrd Skynyrd.  I had thought I missed it, but apparantly not!  So I had to look up the performance, and damn.

I mean, Slash, Billy Gibbons, Paul Rodgers, Cody Johnson, Warren Hayes, Chuck Levall,  Wynona Judd and LeeAnn Rimes?

Hell. Yes.

Having seen Skynyrd several times, and always enjoying the show they put on, this made my heart happy.

Also, Slash. And Cody Johnson. That’s all you really need right there.

Sadly, after the recent passing of Gary Rossington, there are no original surviving members of the band.  But their legend will live on.

There will always be someone yelling “Play Freebird” until the end of time, so there’s that.

Seriously, though, loved this!  Good call, CMT.

Rock and Country is ALWAYS a good mix!
