Last month, Bad Company released a tribute album, and this now just popped up on YouTube… Halestorm and Paul Rodgers doing one hell of a version of “Shooting Star”:
Honestly, I was never that big of a fan of the original version… just too long, slow and monotone for me… but this version?
It’s definitely got my attention.
Check out more on the Bad Company tribute album “Can’t Get Enough” out now.
Ultimateclassicrock.com just ranked the “50 Greatest Power Ballads in Rock History”, and here’s their Top 10:
1. “Purple Rain”, Prince (1984)
2. “Alone”, Heart (1987)
3. “November Rain”, Guns N’ Roses (1991)
4. “Don’t Stop Believin'”, Journey (1981)
5. “I Want to Know What Love Is”, Foreigner (1984)
6. “Home Sweet Home”, Motley Crue (1985)
7. “Dream On”, Aerosmith (1973)
8. “I’d Do Anything For Love (But I Won’t Do That)”, Meat Loaf (1993)
9. “Sister Christian”, Night Ranger (1983)
10. “Heaven”, Bryan Adams (1983)
Pretty solid Top 10, right?
However, “Nothing Else Matter” by Metallica only ranking #50 is totally suspect, as is Bon Jovi’s “Never Say Goodbye” and Cinderella’s “Nobody’s Fool” not being on the list.
On Friday, Brooks and Dunn released their “Reboot 2” album, and there’s all kinds of reimagined hits of their catalogue. Everyone from Morgan Wallen to Lainey Wilson to Halestorm- yes, Halestorm- are on the album.
Wanna hear a Metal version of “Boot Scootin’ Boogie”?
Thanks to Halestorm, we now have it:
Well, ok then.
I don’t hate it, though.
Lzzy Hale- the vocalist of Halestorm- is a freaking Rock Goddess. I appreciate anything she does.
Definitely an unexpected combo- but you know what? I’m down. I love both Country and Rock, so I’m for combining the worlds.

In case you’ve been under a rock or something, HARDY is ne of the biggest names in Country right now, and moonlights as a Rock singer as well. He had his first #1 on Mainstream Rock last year with “Jack”, and it was one of my favrite songs of 2023:
HARDY is not only continuing to dominate the Country world, but is getting full on into Rock as well. He announced his first full-length Rock album “Quit!” which will be released on July 12th.
To get you ready for it, he just released his new song “Psycho” today, and I’m digging both the song and the video:
This song reminds me of an ex or two.
I mean, that’s kind of scary, but at least it’s relateable?
I know there’s some complaints about genre-crossing artists, but I’m really enjoying the dual musical stylings of artists like HARDY, Jelly Roll and Chris Stapleton.
Chris Stapleton just released his contibuton to the upcoming Tom Petty Country Tribute album “Petty Country” and it’s everything and more I hoped it would be.
Chris was tapped to sing “I Should Have Known It” and it’s all the badassery you could want:
I love that it has that strong Southern Rock vibe that Chris does so well.
Then again, I’m pretty sure Chris could sing… I don’t know… bubblegum Pop and sound stellar.
Hm. Maybe he should prove that?
Maybe he should do a Britney Spears tribute?
He would make it work.
Here’s the full track listing for “Petty Country” out May 31st:

Pearl Jam just released the 2nd song off of their upcoming album “Dark Matter”, and holy cow, they weren’t kidding when they said they were going for a harder sound on this record.
I am LOVING it!
Again, I was never the biggest Pearl Jam fan in the past. I mean, no disrespect, but I just didn’t vibe with their sound (except for “Better Man”- GREAT song), but I have to say, I am definitely digging their harder sound. Reminds me of their early days as a band. I am so glad they are bringing that sound back, and I can’ wait to hear more.
“Dark Matter” will be released April 19th via MonkeyWrench Records/Republic Records.
One of the biggest stars in Country Music right now is HARDY. Singer/Songwiter and one hell of a performer, this guy has had a massive few years. And he also had a recent Rock hit with “Jack” which went #1 on the Mainstream Rock charts last year.
Well, he just announced his first full-length Rock album (details coming soon), and he released the first single off of it called “ROCKSTAR” this morning, and no, it’s not a Nickleback cover…
It IS pretty dang awesome, though, and it has one of the best music videos I’ve seen in a long time.
I’ve been listening to her “Rockstar” album these past couple of days, and I have a few new favorites.
First off: Her cover of “Satisfaction” by The Rolling Stones, featuring P!nk and Brandi Carlile.
Dolly originally wanted Mick Jagger, but he didn’t do it for whatever reason. What, like you’re too cool for Dolly? Who the hell says NO to Dolly??? Rude, Mick, RUDE!
Another fun track off the album is her verison of “Heartbreaker” by Pat Benetar. Pat Benetar and her husband Neil Giraldo join in:
This is NOT an easy song to pull off with the vocals and tempo, but you know Dolly can handle it!
And one more anthem that she shares with Debbie Harry- Blondie’s “Heart of Glass”:
Holy Icon Explosion!
There are so many great songs- both covers and originals- on Dolly’s new “Rockstar” album. As a Country and Rock fan, I am all for it. Also, at Dolly’s age, to even do one-tenth of what she does would be incredibly impressive. This woman is a true ROCKSTAR, and we are so lucky to have her.
