Zach Top “I Never Lie”

If you’re not tracking Zach Top, you are missing out.

Big time.

He broke early this year with his hit “Sounds Like the Radio”, and hot damn, he’s on a roll.

He’s got that glorious 90’s Country sound and it just makes my heart all kinds of happy.

His new single “I Never Lie” is perfection, and if you haven’t heard it yet, here you go:

Right? Isn’t that great? Sounds like the radio in 1994, as Zach Top mentioned in his previous hit “Sounds Like the Radio”.

Zach is the next big thing. Mark my words.

He’s also a pretty awesome guy, as evidenced by my interview with him from earlier this year:

Isn’t he a doll?
Check out his debut album “Cold Beer and Country Music” out now.
You’re welcome.
Zach Top is here to help save Country Music!

Miley Cyrus “Beautiful That Way” From “The Last Showgirl”

Miley Cyrus just released her original song from “The Last Showgirl” soundtrack called “Beautiful That Way”, and it is stunning.

Written by Miley Cyrus, Lykke Lee, and Andrew Wyatt, it is totally worthy of the Golden Globe that it just got nominated for:

Wowza.

Here’s the full lyrics:

“Just like a rose red in its glow
Watch her as she sways
Just like a rose she’ll cut you with thorns
She’s beautiful that way
Hold your cards close, know when to fold
Keep that poker face
Get back up, babe, when she knocks you down
She’s beautiful that way[Bridge]
I know it hurts
For what it’s worth
But you had to know
Summer would go
Oh[Verse 2]
Spin, baby, spin, the night always falls
At least you had your day
Now the light shines on some other girl
Who’s beautiful that way
She’s beautiful that way”

The song if off of the soundtrack to “The Last Showgirl” starring Pamela Anderson, which hits theaters this Friday, December 13th.

Check out the trailer below:

Ok, I’m totally wanting to see this.

So far, it’s getting pretty solid reviews… find out more here: https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/the_last_showgirl

Full disclosure: I always kind of wanted to be a showgirl. Except that I can’t dance.

Oh well. Maybe in my next life.

Rolling Stone 100 Best Songs of 2024

It’s the end of the year, so naturally, all the major publications have to put out their “Best Of” lists- some objecive, and some not so objective.

“Rolling Stone” -possibly the least objective of them all- has graced us with their list of  “The 100 Best Songs of 2024”, and here’s the Top 10:

1.  “Good Luck, Babe!”,  Chappell Roan:

I’m actually totally down with this being #1. I love this song, and a lot of what Chappell Roan is putting out. An extremely talented and unique artist, and I’m not going to argue “Roling Stone” on this one.

2.  “Not Like Us”,  Kendrick Lamar:

This song was HUGE this Summer, and 21-year-old me would have been all about it. 41-year-old me could take it or leave it.

3.  “A Bar Song (Tipsy)”,  Shaboozey:

This song was (and still is) EVERYWHERE in 2024. It’s catchy as hell. But, is it technically a good song? Nah. Just fun and one of those ear-worms that you can’t get out of your head. It’s also the biggest song of the year as far as chart performance goes, as it’s spent a whopping record-tying 19 weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

My biggest complaint about this song is that it’s basically the Country version of J-Kwon’s “Tipsy” that was huge 20 years ago:

I’m also salty that this song is 20 years old.

Oooof.
4.  “Espresso”,  Sabrina Carpenter:

I flipping LOVE Sabrina Carpenter, and her songs are ridiculously fun and catchy, and I still crank this one up when I hear it on the radio. even though  have heard it eight million times this year.

Kudos to Sabrina for killing it in 2024.
5.  “Birds of a Feather”,  Billie Eilish:

I’m honestly not a huge Billie Eilish fan- I think she’s incredibly talented artist, but she’s not my style.

That being said, this is my favorite of hers, and I love that she’s showing off her gorgeous vocals on this song.

Also, she is incredibly gorgeous without trying.

6.  “Too Sweet”,  Hozier:

Hozier had a massive hit on his hands with “Too Sweet” this year, and it was his first ever #1 hit.

Kudos to him.
7.  “Nasty”,  Tinashe:

It’s a NO from me, dawg.

Again, college me would have had it on repeat on my Napster-burned CD.

Today me, not so much.

8.  “Pink Skies”,  Zach Bryan:

I’m going to be completely honest here… I don’t get the Zach Bryan obsession.

Is a good artist and writer? Yes. Does he have a great jawline? Also, yes.

But for me, he’s just emo-Country, and I just don’t vibe with it.

He’s got a few songs I like, but again, just not my cup of bourbon.
9.  “Girl, So Confusing (Remix)”,  Charli XCX featuring Lorde:

Real talk: I never heard this song before.

But I don’t hate it.

10.  “Right Back to It”,  Waxahatchee featuring MJ Lenderman:

Ok, again, I’m clearly not cool enough to be aware of every single song on this list, but I do love that one now.

So, thank you “Rolling Stone” for alerting me to it.

What is the best song of the year in your opinion?

“Get Low” Christmas Version

Well, this is utterly and completely necessary.

One of my favorite creators- There I Ruined It- just made my holidays a little merrier.

Did we really need a holiday version of Lil’ Jon’s “Get Low”?

I think we did.

Well, if that doesn’t jingle your bells, I don’t know what will.

Aw, skeet skeet.

This will be in my head all day, and I will most likely sing it out loud, so my sincerest apologies to anyone I encounter today.

Ashley McBryde “Ain’t Enough Cowboy Songs”

Ashley McBryde is the real deal.

She has been one of my favorite Country artists for years, and has one of the most pure Country voices as well as an incredible talent for songwriting. She’s definitely underrated as far as I’m concerned. And live? Unfreakingbelieveable.

Like, truly, flawless.

You’ll get to experience her flawlessness while she’s on the road with Cody Johnson for the next few months, and she just dropped a new single for you to enjoy called “Ain’t Enough Cowboy Songs” and it’s pretty dang flawless, too:

Dammmnnnn…

Yep, adding it to my playlist now!

No word on if Ashley is working on a new album, which is usually the case when an artist randomly releases a song. But my fingers are crossed for a follow up to “The Devil I Know” in the near future.

Shenendoah “Sunday in the South” Remake With Luke Bryan and Jason Aldean

A couple of months ago, Shenandoah teamed up with Luke Bryan and Jason Aldean for an updated version of their classic #1 1989 hit “Sunday in the South”, and they just released the music video for the song, and it’s a solid recreation of the original- both the song and video:

Being a 90’s Country fan, I appreciated the heck out of that.

Also, I prefer Luke Bryan singing songs like this, instead of songs about beer and shaking your butt for a catfish, but that’s just me.

The video was filmed in Liepers Fork, TN, which is my home state, and reminds me of my hometown of Hnederson, TN, and I tell you, I could really go for some Bells Drive-n right know.

If ya know ya know.

Shenandoah is thankfully still going strong, and still on the road.

Kacey Musgraves “The Architect” Music Video

Earlier this year, Kacey Musgraves released her latest album “Deeper Well”, and one of the standout songs on it is “The Architect”.

Easily one of my favorite songs of the year.

Beautifully written and sung, and just one of those perfect songs that I would not change a thing about.

Kacey finally released the music video for it today, and it’s just as beautiful as the song:

Can I look like Kacey in my next life? Can I speak to the architect?
