Are These the Best Country Songs of the 90’s?

The 90’s… what a time to be alive.

One of the many things about the best decade ever was the Country Music. 90’s Country is next level, and I really don’t think anyone can argue me that.

But what one CAN argue on (because we are humans, and arguing about anything and everything is in our DNA) is this list of the “Best Country Songs of the 90’s”.

“Holler” – A Country Music website- put out a list of the best songs from the ’90s.  Here are the Top 10:

1.  “Chattahoochee” by Alan Jackson:

One word: ICONIC
2.  “Should’ve Been a Cowboy” by Toby Keith

THE best song out of Toby’s catalogue. And easily one of the best of the decade.
3.  “How Do I Live” by LeAnn Rimes:

I’ll be honest. I never really liked this song. First off- both LeAnn Rimes and Trisha Yearwood had the same song out at the same time (which was dumb), and even though LeAnn’s vocals are killer, it always struck me odd for a teenager to sing that song.

I mean, dramatic much?

Yeah, hard pass for me.

4.  “Friends in Low Places” by Garth Brooks:

One of the best party songs ever. No arguments here!

Now, it would be cool if Garth would actually put his music videos on YouTube like everyone else…
5.  “Independence Day” by Martina McBride:

Another classic… and fun fact: it’s NOT about the 4th of July at all, yet it’s played a lot on that holiday.

Listen to the lyrics, people!

6.  “Achy Breaky Heart” by Billy Ray Cyrus:

I’m embarrassed to admit that 9-year-old me liked this song.

42 year-old me thinks it’s basically Luke Bryan with a mullet.

Also, Billy has fallen waaaaayyyy off of his rocker these past few decades.

Too much fame too fast can do that.

7.  “Fancy” by Reba McEntire:

Reba is a freaking QUEEN, and this song will always hit.

Although, as I kid, I thought she was singing “Here’s your watch back, Fancy don’t let me down”.

Because, back in the 90’s, one couldn’t simply google lyrics.

Kids today will never understand.
8.  “Neon Moon” by Brooks & Dunn:

Oh, HELL YES!

One of the best lines in Country Music is in this song: “Watch your broken dreams dance in and out of the beams of a neon moon”…

Classic.

9.  “Maybe It Was Memphis” by Pam Tillis:

Pam Freaking Tillis.

What a legend. That voice… that heritage… and this song is perfection. It’s extra special to me, as I fell in love with my husband in Memphis. This was before you could go to Beale Street with much less of a chance of being shot.

10.  “Boot Scootin’ Boogie” by Brooks & Dunn:

If you didn’t know the line dance to this in the 90’s, you were lame. It was like the OG TikTok dance.

So, there you have it.

The 10 Best Songs of the 90’s according to “Holler”.

Do you agree?

What songs are missing?

Where’s Garth Brook’s “The Dance”?

Or Shania’s “Any Man of Mine”?

ANY AND ALL George Strait?

What say you?

Dua Lipa Performs AC/DC’s “Highway to Hell”

Damn.

Dua Lipa just earned some more of my respect.

I’ve always liked the pop star, who has a great, strong voice and catchy songs… but I didn’t realize how good her vocals actually are until just now.

She brought her “Radical Optimism” tour to Melbourne, Australia, and took a chance at covering the iconic Aussie band AC/DC’s “Highway to Hell” in concert, and it paid off I’d say:

Damn, Dua Lipa.

Yeah, I had no idea she had that in her. Mad respect!

Check out where she’ll be next at DuaLipa.com

She definitely went up a few notches for me with this performance. Well done!

“American Idol” Contestant Bryson Quick Puts a Country Spin on Pink Floyd’s “Time”

Ok, I admit it.

I’ve kind of, sort of started watching “American Idol” again.

My husband and I watched it religiously for years, then kind of got bored with it, so we moved on.

Well, now my three-year-old son is obsessed, and so we keep it on, as he gets super excited anytime someone sings.

This performance got my attention last night… a high school student named Bryson Quick auditioned with a really cool Country take on Pink Floyd’s classic “Time”:

Pretty damn cool…

As a Country and Classic Rock fan, I can definitely appreciate that.

And yes, “American Idol” is staged as hell… but there is some great talent that comes from the show, and I’m really loving Carrie Underwood as a judge this year.

Catch Season 7,467 (or whatever we’re on now) on Sunday and Monday nights on ABC.

Guess I’ll drink the Kool-Aid for my kid’s sake!

Miranda Lambert “I Don’t Love Here”

20 years ago today, Miranda Lambert released her breakthrough Country album “Kerosene”, and it launched her into Country music stardom.

Yeah. 20 years ago. 2005.

The math is mathing and it kind of stings, right?

To celebrate the anniversary, Miranda released a deluxe version of “Kerosene” on vinyl, and reached into the vault to release a song from 20 years ago that didn’t make it on the album (but should have) called “I Don’t Love Here”.

Of course, it’s really good:

Awwww… I love baby Miranda’s voice!

Honestly, that song could still be a hit.

20 years later, Miranda is still – and always will be- a Country music staple.

She’s on the road pretty much all year with everyone from Ella Langley to Morgan Wallen, and you can find dates and info at http://Mirandalambert.com

Josh Turner Interview!

I had the pleasure of checking in with Country star Josh Turner today- he’s performing at Pueblo Memorial Hall tonight, and he called into the show for a little chat.

I TOLD you that his speaking voice is as sexy as his singing voice!

He’s on the road this year on his “This Country Music Thing” tour to promote his new album of the same name.

Chappell Roan Goes Country With “The Giver”!

Unless you’ve been living solely on another planet, you’ve heard about the incredibly talented Chappell Roan.

You know… the creative mind and killer voice behind Pop hits like “Good Luck Babe”, “Hot to Go”, and “Pink Pony Club”, and, of course, the winner of the coveted Grammy for “Best New Artist” this year.

She’s kind of a badass.

Well, the dropped her “Country” song today, and even as a 100,000 %  straight woman, I can appreciate it.

Check out “The Giver”:

Catchy, right?

Basically, she’s saying she can do it better than any man can.

I don’t doubt it.

And, Country traditionalists… don’t lose your mind. She only released a Country song for fun. She grew up in rural Missouri, and is pretty well-versed in the Country lifestyle. So, yeah, she gets a hall pass.

She has confirmed this week that she is staying in Pop music, but she wanted to drop a Country song because she loves the genre, and it’s what she grew up on.

Fair enough.

The woman can sing and perform her ass off, and is really a breath of fresh air on the Pop scene.

Oh, and she gets the job DONNNNNNEEEEE.

What more do you want?

If Blink 182 Did the “Titanic” Soundtrack…

Oh, this is so wrong that it’s totally right.

One of my favorite creators- “There, I Ruined It”- who uses AI in the most gloriously creative way- just dropped a new banger.

Imagine if “Blink 182” performed Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On” from the iconic “Titanic” soundtrack…

This is freaking perfection:

I laughed so damn hard, and had to watch about 17 times.

You’re welcome.

Jelly Roll “Zevia” Commercial

Jelly Roll is everywhere these days.

Jelly is now the new “spokesmodel” for Zevia- a zero-sugar soda- and it’s pretty damn funny:

Seem familiar?

The ad is a direct take on the 1992 Pepsi ad starring Cindy Crawford:

Jeepers. They don’t make ’em like they did in the 90’s anymore, do they?

I remember LOVING that commercial as a kid, and wanting to BE Cindy.

What 90’s kid didn’t?

Anyhow, Kudos to Jelly Roll for the nostalgia today, and for giving me a good laugh.

Postmodern Jukebox “Ain’t Talkin’ Bout Love”

If you’re not aware of the awesomeness of Postmodern Jukebox, well…

Educate yourself!

This group is amazing, and is always delivering fun and creative takes on popular songs.

The latest?

A 60’s Girl Group take on Van Halen’s “Ain’t Talkin’ Bout’ Love” featuring Veronica Swift on the lead vocals:

I mean, come on…

I think I like that way better than the original.

Lucky for you, this incredible group is on the road again this year, and you can get their dates here: https://postmodernjukebox.com/postmodern-jukebox/

Rick Astley Covers “Pink Pony Club”

I think the one thing that America can agree on is that Chappell Roan’s “Pink Pony Club” is a freaking bop to end all bops.

Are the cool kids still using the word bop?

Oh well.

I digress…

Now we’re at the point where everyone is doing their own spins on the massive hit, and that includes the 80’s legend Rick Astley.

Did we need this?

Yes, yes we did.

Well done, Rick.

He still has that voice.

In case you didn’t exist in the 80’s, here’s Rick in his prime:

The 80’s.

What a time to be alive.
