Cody Johnson Feat. Jelly Roll “Whiskey Bent”

Cody Johnson just released his highly anticipated double album “Leather” this morning, and there was a collab I was really excited to hear.  It’s with Jelly Roll (because who isn’t teaming up with Jelly these days?) and it’s called “Whiskey Bent” and it’s really good:

Solid work, guys! At first, just seeing the title, I thought it would be just another drinking song. And, it is, but not in the way I thought. Great play on words, and very relateable topic for many.

Whiskey = Trouble. At least in my experience, which is why I stick to wine.

Cody’s doule album “Leather” is out now, and so is the new Jason Aldean “Highway Desperado” and Toby Keith’s “100% Songwriter”.

So, a Happy Friday for Country Music!

The Beatles “Now and Then”

This one has been a LONG time coming…

The FINAL Beatles song!

Thanks to technology, a song that John Lennon had recorded a demo of finally gets to see the light of day with his vocals on it!

I have been waiting on this for months now, as so many others have since hearing that this was going to happen.

And it’s well worth the wait! Such a beautiful, haunting song. What a gift!

Check out “Now and Then”:

Ok, yeah, that was really, really good. Times like these are when technology is definitely our friend!

And the story on how this song came to light is pretty amazing as well. Check it out at https://www.nytimes.com/2023/11/02/arts/music/beatles-now-and-then-last-song.html

Again, what a gift!

“Mean Girls” Wal-Mart Commercial

Ok, like most women my age, I absolutely LOVE “Mean Girls”.

It’s 20 years old, this year, by the way.

So, yeah, that movie was total FIRE to me at 20 years old. I rememvber seeing it in theaters with my best friend Erica and thinking, “Omg, best movie EVER.”

Is it really? Nah. But to 20 year-old me, it was freaking Oscar-worthy at the time.

Anyhow, Wal-Mart just made a brilliant -albiet, expensive- advertising move with an upated version of the movie “Mean Girls” to prote their Black Friday deals, and Holy Moly, it’s perfect.

I laughed so damn hard, and it made my heart happy to see this.

Also, where the HELL is Regina George? I guess Rachel McAdams had better things to do. Her loss.

This absolutely made my day.

Now, if only Wal-Mart could hire some checkout people, and they’d be golden.

Al Pitrelli of Trans-Siberian Orchestra Interview!

Everyone knows and loves Trans-Siberian Orchestra. They are a holiday staple world-wide, and to get the chance to chat with the OG Guitarist and Music Director Al Pitrelli?

Well, color me thrilled, is all.

I was even more thrilled to discover what an amazing, uplifting and positive human being he is.

Take a listen:

Isn’t Al just the best?

Seriously, put a Trans-Siberian Orchestra Show on your holiday bucket list if you haven’t already.

Oh, and some videos just to get you excited!

The Mudpuddles “Lake Beach”

In case you missed it… on “Saturday Night Live”, there was a skit with comedian Nate Bargatze and SNL cast members making fun of Country Music with a song called “Lakebeach” sung by a band called “The MudPuddles”.

I snorted coffee up my nose I laughed so damn hard, and I may now have to go to the ER.

This is freaking GOLD.

Anyone who grew up in the Country knows about the damn Lake Beach.

For me, it was Piney Lake in West Tennessee.

Don’t knock the damn Lake Beach until you’ve tried it, ok?

Also, how awesome is Dave Grohl in the sketch?

Seriously, I had to watch this seven times already, and it’s so perfect and hilarious. Only because it’s 1,000% true.

God Bless Lake Beaches and Country Music!

The Foo Fighters on SNL

Last night, one of my favorite bands ever in existence- The Foo Fighters- took the stage as the musical guests on “Saturday Night Live”.

As per usual, they freaking slayed it.

I LOVE that they were joined by H.E.R. for this song. She’s incredible.

Also, mad props to Christopher Walken for introducing them properly this time. Anyone remember this from 20 years ago?

Memory Lane, man.

I’m honestly just happy to see the Foos keeping it going so string after the devastating loss of Taylor Hawkins.  I can’t imagine how difficult it must be to take the stage each time without him.

Way to keep on keeping on.

I know they have a big 2024 ahead, and I’m just excited to see what they do next.

One song that’s getting a lot of attention is Jelly Roll with K. Michelle and The Fisk Jubilee Singers version of “Love Can Build a Bridge”.
As it should:

Well, that just took me to church this morning.

Seriously, I am really loving Jelly Roll more and more as an artist.  His voice is just damn….

Oh, and here’s the OG version of “Love Can Build a Bridge”, just to remind you of how FIRE The Judds were:

Lainey Wilson and Dolly Parton “Mama He’s Crazy”

Ahhhhh!  I’ve been waiting on this one for a while.

This morning, The Judds Tribute album “A Tribute to The Judds” came out, and I have been waiting for this collab.

Lainey Wilson and Dolly Parton on a classic like “Mama He’s Crazy”?

Oh, HELL YES.

And, of course, it didn’t disappoint at ALL.

You don’t get better than that. No arguments, ok?

The full album “A Tribute to The Judds” is out now! So many amazing tributes by some of Country’s best on there.

Kelly Clarkson “When It Comes to You”

Well, dang.

Kelly Clarkson has gone and done it again.

Now that her “Kelly Clarkson Show” show is back on the air, she’s going all kinds of viral for her “Kellyoke” songs, where she covers a random song on each show.

Well, she decided to cover a Cody Johnson song this week, so of course, being a CoJo fan, I had to give it a listen.

Ommmgggg… she just nailed it. Like, right through the board.

I tell no lies.

By the way, Cody Johnson has a new double album called “Leather” dropping next Friday, Nov 3rd, and you know I’ll be sharing gems from that!

You know what would really be cool, though?

A Kelly Clarkson Country Covers album.

Ya know???

It kind of needs to happen.

Snoop Dogg, Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly “Boats and Hoes”

Snoop Dogg celebrated his 52nd Birthday in epic fashion over the weekend, which included a performance with “Stepbrothers” co-stars Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly of the movie classic “Boats and Hoes”.

Will Ferrell truly is the songbird of his generation.

And if you’re scratching your head as to why this is a thing at all, or what the revelance is, please, let me enlighten you:

If you haven’t seen “Stepbrothers”, please rectify that immediately, ok?

You’ll thank me later.

To this day, I will randomly yell out “Boats and Hoes” if I’m really excited about something.  I’m that mature.

But whoever laughs and gets it is obviously in the cool kids club.

Maybe you’ll get invited to the next Catalina Wine Mixer. You never know.
