Elle King Drunk Performs Drunk at Dolly Parton Tribute at The Ryman

You may remember that Elle King made headlines a few weeks ago with her drunk performance on New Year’s Eve on Nashville’s Big Bash. It was on live TV, and personally, I didn’t see the problem. It was NYE, Elle is known for being a party girl, and she still had a solid (if no a bit slurred) performance.

No harm, no foul, right? I’ve seen waaaaay worse.

Welllll… Elle King is raising eyebrows again for another drunken performance. This time, this past Friday night at the Ryman for the Dolly Parton Tribute in honor of the legend’s 78th birthday. She was obviously lit UP (hey, she admitted it) and her introduction had a lot of people ticked off, and some say it was disrespectful to Dolly.

Here it is on TikTok:

@jamiek721 Elle King disrespected the Ryman & Dolly Parton ????????ā€ā™€ļø #elleking #grandoleopry #nashville #countrymusic #dollyparton #tributeshow #countrymusictiktoks #cancelled #dollyfam #dolly #drunk ♬ Oh No No No Laugh – Sound Effect

Welp.

Yeah, that was a bit much.

This performance was pretty bad, as well:

Her performance of “Jolene” that found I found wasn’t awful, though…

Look, I have nothing against drinking. I love my wine, but I have also learned in my older years about a thing called moderation. Now in my early twenties, when I was young, dumb, and had no real big responsibilities, sure, I overdid it, and even had my share of drunken nights on stage with cover bands. But nothing near the level that Elle is performing at. She is one heck of a talent, and I really do like her, and enjoy her music.

I hope she slows her roll a bit…

If nothing else, because taking care of a toddler with a hangover can’t be fun. Her son is about the same age as mine, and I can’t even imagine!

Then again, isn’t a double standard? Some of Country’s greats were complete hot messes- Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Willie, Waylon, the list goes on and on… and they were WAYYYY worse than the shennanigans Elle has been up to these past few weeks.

Except they’re men, and they can get away with it.

What do you think?

Does Elle need to slow it down a bit?

Or should she be able to have her fun as long as she’s not hurting anyone?

A “We Are the World” Documentary is Coming to Netflix!

One of my first musical memories is “We Are the World”.

My babysitter gave me the VHS of the taping for my third birthday, and I was obsessed. I watched it over and over again, and fell in love with the artists, particulary Cyndi Lauper and Kenny Rogers. I would demand to watch it nightly, and soon knew all of the words by heart,

This video and performance still holds a special place in my heart, not just for all the the amazing artists who were a part of it, but also because of the cause it supported.

All these years later, a documentary is cming to Netflix later this month, and after viewing the trailer, it’s definitely worth a watch!

If you haven’t seen the iconic performance, well, let me educate you on one of history’s greatest musical moments!

Seriously, how great is that???

Watching this tonight for probably the eight millionth time made my little heart happy.

I can’t wait for the Netflix special.

“The Greatest Night in Pop” debuts on Netflix on January 29th.

Guess what I’ll be doing that night?

Dolly Parton “Sweet Dreams”

The iconic Dolly Parton is 78 today!

And to celebrate her birthday, she just released a Deluxe Version of her “Rockstar” albuym featuring some new reimagined tracks, like “Sweet Dreams” by The Eurythmics:

Ok, how cool was that? Haunting and creepy, and still has the rock edge and those stellar Dolly vocals. Honestly, I think that is one of my favorite verisons of that song.

She also released a version of “Bridge Over Troubled Water”:

Annnnnddd… a version of Eddie Money’s “Two Tickets to Paradise”!

Overall, she has nine new tracks on the Deluxe version of her “Rockstar” album, which is available now.

Happy Birthday, Dolly!

QUEEEEEEEEEENNNNNN!!!!

The Best “Feel Good” Country Songs of All Time

It’s Janurary.

The most depressing time of the year, and this Polar Vortex thing or whatever deep freeze that is taking over the country doesn’t help.

So, how about a pick-me-up?

Ranker.com had fans vote on the best “feel good” country songs of all time.Ā  Here are the Top 10 . . .

1.Ā Ā “Friends in Low Places”Ā byĀ Garth Brooks.Ā  (1990)

It’d be cool if Garth would put his videos on youtube, but whatever Garth. You do you.

But yeah, if you don’t sing along at the top of your lungs every time this song comes on, are you even Country?

2.Ā Ā “Chicken Fried”Ā byĀ Zac Brown BandĀ  (2008)

This was The Zac Brown Band’s first big hit, and it still brings a smile to my face, and makes me want fried chicken.

Then again, everything makes me want fried chicken.

3.Ā Ā “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere”Ā byĀ Alan JacksonĀ andĀ Jimmy BuffettĀ  (2003)

Ahhh! I love this song. And Jimmy Buffett, may he rest in the big Margaritvaille in the sky. What a freaking legend.

4.Ā Ā “Boot Scootin’ Boogie”Ā byĀ Brooks & DunnĀ  (1991)

This was THE jam in the early 90’s. I still know every word, even if I never mastered the line dance.

5.Ā Ā “All My Ex’s Live in Texas”Ā byĀ George StraitĀ  (1987)

If you don’t love George Strait, you’re unamerican. That is all.

6.Ā Ā “Song of the South”Ā byĀ AlabamaĀ  (1988)

Same goes for Alabama. If you don’t celebrate their entire catalogue, you aren’t living your life right.

7.Ā Ā “Where the Green Grass Grows”Ā byĀ Tim McGrawĀ  (1998)

Definitely one of my favorites from Tim McGraw- reminds me of home. Man, I can’t wait to get back there someday for good… farm life is the best life. At least for me it is.
8.Ā Ā “No Shirt, No Shoes, No Problem”Ā byĀ Kenny ChesneyĀ  (2002)

Kenny Chesney has no shortage of great beachy party songs. He also rocks the no shirt/cowboy hat look pretty dang well, which is also a pick-me-up in itself.

9.Ā Ā “Barefoot Blue Jean Night”Ā byĀ Jake OwenĀ  (2011)

This was THE Country song of 2011, and a career maker for Jake Owen. It’s still a Counry radio staple, and never gets old.

10.Ā Ā “Life Is a Highway”Ā byĀ Rascal FlattsĀ  (2006)

I’m honestly “meh” about Rascal Flatts and always have been (except for “Moving On- GREAT song), but they did do justice to the Tom Cochrane original “Life is a Highway” for the “Cars” movie soundtrack.

I mean, come on.

Let’s Go Girls.

Lights my fire every time.

What is your favorite Country Feel Good song?

Teddy Swims Covers Taylor Swift

Teddy Swims is one of the biggest new talents on the scene, with an absolutely astounding voice.Ā  He hit i big in 2023 with “Lose Control”, and he’s just getting started.

As a sucker for a good cover song, my attention was drawn to a live performance of Taylor Swift’s “Cruel Summer” that he performed on BBC Radio earlier this week.

HOT DAMN!

That was fantastic.

And I wonder how much it hurt o get those eyelids tattooed.

I can’t wait to see where Teddy goes next. As I mentioned before, this is just the beginning.

SUCH a talent.

Feel old now?

You’re welcome.

T-Pain Covers “Tennessee Whiskey”

I’m just as shocked as you will be after seeing this.

T-Pain- yes, the rapper- recently put out a covers album called “On Top of the Covers”, and on it, a cover of Chris Stapleton’s version of “Tennessee Whiskey”.

You have to watch this to believe it.

I mean, WHATTTT?

I was NOT expecting that. At all.

Now all we need is Chris Stapleton covering “Buy You a Drank”, and life will be complete.

Or at least a collab between the two?

I’m still in shock over here.

Lana Del Ray “Take Me Home, Country Roads”

I just stumbled upon a version of John Denver’s classic “Take Me Home, Country Roads” that Lana Del Ray just reimagined, and you know what? It’s pretty stellar.

Kind of hauntingly beautiful, isn’t it?

Being from the country myself, this song always resonated with me, and this is just an extra cool version that I am definitely adding to the playlist.

It turns out, Lana was inspired to record a version of this song after a recent tour to the Southern states and Appalachia.

I know there are some people who complain about covers and reimagined versions of songs, but I like hearing different voices on classics. I think Lana Del Ray nailed it on this one.

Worst Lyrics in Classic Rock

One of my favorite websites-Ā http://ultimateclassicrock.com– just compiled a list of the worst lyrics in Classic Rock, and it’s hard to argue it.

Here are the Top 10:

1. “Why Can’t This Be Love?”, Van Halen: “Only time will tell if we stand the test of time.”

2. “Don’t Stop Believin'”, Journey: “Just a city boy, born and raised in South Detroit.” (South Detroit doesn’t exist.)

3. “Roundabout”, Yes: “Mountains come out of the sky, and they stand there.”

4. “Sleeping Bag”, ZZ Top: “Let’s go out to Egypt ’cause it’s in the plan . . . we’ll whip out our mattress ’cause there ain’t no beds.”

5. “Dirty White Boy”, Foreigner: “I’m a loner, but I’m never alone.”

6. “A Horse with No Name”, America: “In the desert you can remember your name, ’cause there ain’t no one for to give you no pain.”

7. “De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da”, The Police: “And when their eloquence escapes me, their logic ties me up and rapes me.”

8. “We Didn’t Start the Fire”, Billy Joel: “Rock and Roller, cola wars, I can’t take it anymore.” (A Coke and Pepsi rivalry frustrates him?)

9. “We Built This City”, Starship: “Who counts the money, underneath the bar, who rides the wrecking ball into our guitars?”

10. “Pinball Wizard”, The Who: “[He] plays by sense of smell.”

Yeah, they’re all pretty bad. But what about “Christine Sixteen” by KISS?

“I don’t usually say things like this to girls your age
But when I saw you coming out of school that day
(Christine sixteen)
That day I knew, I knew
I’ve got to have you, I’ve got to have you

[Bridge]
She’s been around, but she’s young and clean
I’ve got to have her, can’t live without her, whoa no”

OMFG.

Or what about Winger’s “Seventeen”?

“She said, “I’m only seventeenĀ (Seventeen)
I’ll show you love like you’ve never seen”, oh
She’s only seventeen (Seventeen)
Daddy says she’s too young
But she’s old enough for me

Or… the creepiest song on the planet, “Into the Night” by Benny Mardones?

What the actual hell?

Does that qualify as Classic Rock?

Probably not. But I wanted to mention anyway, since it always gave me the creeps, and I’m still shocked it gets played on radio stations to this day.
