Olivia Rodrigo “Can’t Catch Me Now”

Ooooohhhh… this song came out today, and I am LOVING it!

Pop Star Olivia Rodrigo just out out her song “Can’t Catch Me Now” off the new “Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” and wowza. It’s creepily, hauntingly fantastic!

Take a listen:

To me, a good song is one that presents itself with a visual in your mind when you hear it, and this one did just that the first time I listened.

Also, she wrote the song, which just proves her prowess as a songwriter.

The full soundtrack comes out the same day as the movie- November 17th.  I can’t wait to hear more!

Seriously, though. Props to Olivia for this one. It just made me love her as an artist that much more.

Cody Johnson Feat. Jelly Roll “Whiskey Bent”

Cody Johnson just released his highly anticipated double album “Leather” this morning, and there was a collab I was really excited to hear.  It’s with Jelly Roll (because who isn’t teaming up with Jelly these days?) and it’s called “Whiskey Bent” and it’s really good:

Solid work, guys! At first, just seeing the title, I thought it would be just another drinking song. And, it is, but not in the way I thought. Great play on words, and very relateable topic for many.

Whiskey = Trouble. At least in my experience, which is why I stick to wine.

Cody’s doule album “Leather” is out now, and so is the new Jason Aldean “Highway Desperado” and Toby Keith’s “100% Songwriter”.

So, a Happy Friday for Country Music!

The Beatles “Now and Then”

This one has been a LONG time coming…

The FINAL Beatles song!

Thanks to technology, a song that John Lennon had recorded a demo of finally gets to see the light of day with his vocals on it!

I have been waiting on this for months now, as so many others have since hearing that this was going to happen.

And it’s well worth the wait! Such a beautiful, haunting song. What a gift!

Check out “Now and Then”:

Ok, yeah, that was really, really good. Times like these are when technology is definitely our friend!

And the story on how this song came to light is pretty amazing as well. Check it out at https://www.nytimes.com/2023/11/02/arts/music/beatles-now-and-then-last-song.html

Again, what a gift!

Lainey Wilson “Country’s Cool Again”

Ya’ll know I love me some Lainey Wilson.

Who doesn’t these days, right?

I’m happy to say that I was one of the first to the party. I know good when I see it (or hear it, in her case!).

Well, I was excited to see that Lainey is teasing a new song on social media called “Country’s Cool Again”.

Give it a listen:

@laineywilson There must be something in the water…#CountrysCoolAgain ???? ???? #countrymusic #acousticmusic ♬ original sound – Lainey Wilson

Yep. It’s gonna be a hit, for sure.

Also, here’s her performing it at Red Rocks recently:

Yassss!!!!

So, does that mean a new album?

I sure hope so. Her last release was “Bell Bottom Country” which came out last Fall, and was a huge hit. Her latest single “Watermelon Moonshine” is spending it’s 3rd week at #1 on the Country charts, and her collab with Jelly Roll “Save Me” is climbing the charts with lightening speed.

It’s safe to say that Lainey is here to stay!

Good.

Chris Stapleton “It Takes A Woman”

I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it a thousand more times I’m sure… Chris Stapleton can’t miss.

He just dropped a new song off of his upcoming album “Higher” and it’s absolutely glorious.

It’s called “It Takes a Woman” and it’s his signature Bluesy/Rock/Country perfection.

Can we get an “Amen” for his insanely talented wife Morgane on the background vocals? I want HER to release a solo project, or better yet- a duets project with Chris. It needs to happen, like, yesterday.

Chris’s new album Higher will be released on November 10th.

Luke Combs “Where the Wild Things Are”

Luke Combs has announced his latest radio single, and it’s one of my favorites of his.

“Where the Wild Things Are” will be playing like crazy on Country radio soon, so be ready.

I’m totally not mad at it.

Isn’t that a cool song?

Written by Randy Montana and Dave Turnbull, it sounds like nothing on the radio just now.  A great mid-tempo beat and story to go with it.

So… yeah. You just heard Luke Combs 17th #1 hit.

That was an easy one to call!

Wynonna Judd and Trisha Yearwood “Cry Myself to Sleep”

I am a big 90’s Country girl- after all, it’s what I grew up on. My small town of Henderson, TN only had one radio station, and it was Country (107.7!), so it was basically all I listened to for a while growing up.  Both Wynonna Judd and Trisha Yearwood were radio staples, and I absolutely loved them. So, naturally, I was excited to hear that a tribute album to The Judds would be coming out this Fall. One of the re-imagined songs was just released, and it’s Wynonna and Trisha on one of my favorite Judds songs, “Cry Myself to Sleep”.

Yep, exactly what I had expected it to be.

Two incredible voices on a classic… you can’t go wrong with those two!

“A Tribute to The Judds” will feature more collabs with everyone from Carly Pearce to Reba to Jelly Roll to Cody Johnson.

Am I excited?

Ya damn skippy.

“A Tribute to The Judds” comes out October 27th.

*NSYNC “Better Place”

When I was in High School in the late 90’s, you were either #TeamNSYNC or #TeamBackstreetBoys. I was always fully commited to *NSYNC because, duh, Justin Timberlake.

Obviously, 14 year-old me knew what was up, as JT is still a freaking superstar.

ANNNDDDD *NSYNC is BACK! If only for one song.

It’s called “Better Place” and it’s off of the “Trolls 4” Soundtrack:

Nope, that did not disappoint.

Super catchy, and perfect for the upcoming “Trolls 4” soundtrack.

I mean, I was hoping for a full on reunion album or tour, but I’ll take what I can get.

A little *NSYNC is better than none, right?

My teenage heart is happy.

Rolling Stones Feat. Lady Gaga and Stevie Wonder “Sweet Sounds of Heaven”

I have been waiting on this drop for weeks since I heard it was going to happen.

The Rolling Stones have teamed up with Lady Gaga and Stevie Wonder for a song called “Sweet Sounds of Heaven” and it’ll take you to church whether you’re a believer or not!

Duddddeee… I was NOT expecting that. But I like it. A lot.

Mick sounds great, as does Gaga (always!) and Stevie tickling the ivories… definitely adding this one to the playlist!

Of course, “Sweet Sounds of Heaven” is off their upcoming album “Hackney Diamonds” out October 20th.

I don’t know about you, but I’m excited for more.

Rolling Stones for Life!

Chris Young “Young Love & Saturday Night”

I was saying last week that there’s been an influx of Classic Rock in Country Music lately, and Chris Young’s latest song is more proof to that statement.

The song is called “Young Love and Saturday Night”, and it heavily samples the guitar riff from David Bowie’s “Rebel Rebel”:

Again, I don’t hate it. It’s catchy as hell, and the riff makes the song.

And a Chevrolet that doesn’t run, well, a truer lyric has never been written.

Also, Chris Young lost 60 lbs, and looks awesome! I’ve always liked him because looks-wise he reminds me of my husband.

Chris is on the road this Fall, and you can check his dates at https://www.chrisyoungcountry.com/
