Gabby Barrett Feat. Luke Combs “Dance Like No ones Watching”

Country singer Gabby Barrett released her new album “Chapter & Verse” yesterday, and after hearing songs off of it like her latest single “Glory Days” and “You’re My Texas”, I was really looking forward to hearing her latest effort.

I’m definitely NOT dissapointed in the least!

She’s worked with so many great artists on this album, including Luke Combs who wrote “Dance Like No Ones Watching” and even gave his voice to the project:

Welp. My heart just melted.

You’re going to hear that song at ALL the weddings this year.

How amazing is Gabby’s voice on that song? And I love that she’s staying true to herself as an artist. She says that her music reflects her life, as a wife, mother, and Christian, and I love that.

Family values, people. It’s a good thing.

Gabby’s “Chapter & Verse” is out now, and is worth adding to your 2024 playlist.

Keith Urban “Straight Line”

It’s been a couple years since we’ve had new music from Keith Urban, and that all changed this morning.

Keith just dropped his first new song in 2 years called “Straight Line”, and it’s going to be the perfect Spring/Summer jam this year.

Yeah, that’s super catchy.  High energy, feel-good, fast paced, with some good guitar action near the end… I’m sure this will be another big hit for Keith!

I can totally see myself driving down the road jamming out to this one. It’s an instant mood lifter,

It almost sounds like it’s got cross-over potential for Adult Contemporary radio as well.  Look, there’s nothing wrong with genre-crossing. I have a lot of listeners that complain, but I feel that music doesn’t always have to be categorized. If it’s good, it’s good. Who cares?

Plus, anytime a Country artist crosses over, that just brings more attention to the Country genre, which is never a bad thing.

And yes, Keith has a new album in the works.

I’ll keep ya posted!

Morgan Wallen “Spin You Around” 1/24

Morgan Wallen is at the top of his game.

It seems all the controversy from the past few years has only served to propel his to the top- not just of the Country music charts, but the all-genre charts as well. In fact, Morgan Wallen had not only the #1 overall song of 2023 with “Last Night”, he also had the #1 album with “One Thing at a Time”. Again, this is across ALL the genres, not just Country. Not even Taylor Swift could pull that off this past year.

So, of course, some shady people that Morgan used to work with before he hit it big are going to try to capitilize on that.

Here’s what happened, according to Morgan himself:

Yeah, pretty damn shady, but not suprising, sadly.

So, Morgan pulled a Taylor Swift and re-recorded the fan-favorite “Spin You Around” this week:

Again, the song was written a decade ago, when Morgan was just starting out. It’s not terrible, but you can tell  Morgan has definitely grown as a writer since he put out this song. That being said, I’m sure this song will still be streamed like crazy, because, Morgan Wallen.

Oh, and here he is performing it live in 2015:

The hair is just… no.
Also, Morgan said he is hitting the studio next month to begin working on his next project.

Like it or not, Morgan ain’t going anywhere, and I’m totally ok with that.

I remember meeting him and HARDY a few years back at CRS (Country Radio Seminar) in Nashville at the bar at the OMNI hotel. It was right before they hit it big, and they were drunk as hell and just having a good time with their matching mullets. It’s fun to see how far they’ve come since that night in 2019.

That was only 5 years ago. Dang.

Kacey Musgraves “Three Little Birds”

Kacey Musgraves is one of the most beautifully unique artists of our time, and everything she records is really special.

This cover of Bob Marley’s classic “Three Little Birds” is no different.

If you need a pick me up today, here ya go:

Kacey took that, and absolutely made it her own.

I love it! So perfectly peaceful. Bob would be proud.

Kacey’s version of “Three Little Birds” is to be featured on the “Bob Marley: One Love EP” which goes with the movie which will be released in theaters February 14th.
Happy Friday!

Miranda Lambert Covering Merle Haggard

Ya’ll know I love me some Miranda Lambert, so naturally I get excited over every little thing she puts out musically. Lately she’s been posting acoustic porch sessions of her covering Merle Haggard, and they’re perfection.

Her latest is a cover of “My Own Kind of Hat”.

Enjoy.

Videos like that show why Miranda is a legend already. Her voice and style is absolute Country perfection.

Hopefully she’ll give us some new music this year? I know she’s been writing with Ashley Monroe and Wade Bowen… so you know whatever comes of those session is going to be killer.

Stay tuned!

Cody Johnson “The Painter” Music Video

One of my favorite songs of the past year is Cody Johnson’s “The Painter”, and he just released the music video to it, and it’s basically the love story between he and his wife Brandi, to whom he has been married to for fourteen years.

Of course, the video makes sense, as Brandi is who inspired the beautifully written love song.

Way to up the game for all the guys, Cody!

Ad in case you missed it, here’s Cody’s tribute to his wife at the CMA Awards last November:

I still get choked up watching this.

Elle King Drunk Performs Drunk at Dolly Parton Tribute at The Ryman

You may remember that Elle King made headlines a few weeks ago with her drunk performance on New Year’s Eve on Nashville’s Big Bash. It was on live TV, and personally, I didn’t see the problem. It was NYE, Elle is known for being a party girl, and she still had a solid (if no a bit slurred) performance.

No harm, no foul, right? I’ve seen waaaaay worse.

Welllll… Elle King is raising eyebrows again for another drunken performance. This time, this past Friday night at the Ryman for the Dolly Parton Tribute in honor of the legend’s 78th birthday. She was obviously lit UP (hey, she admitted it) and her introduction had a lot of people ticked off, and some say it was disrespectful to Dolly.

Here it is on TikTok:

@jamiek721 Elle King disrespected the Ryman & Dolly Parton ????????‍♀️ #elleking #grandoleopry #nashville #countrymusic #dollyparton #tributeshow #countrymusictiktoks #cancelled #dollyfam #dolly #drunk ♬ Oh No No No Laugh – Sound Effect

Welp.

Yeah, that was a bit much.

This performance was pretty bad, as well:

Her performance of “Jolene” that found I found wasn’t awful, though…

Look, I have nothing against drinking. I love my wine, but I have also learned in my older years about a thing called moderation. Now in my early twenties, when I was young, dumb, and had no real big responsibilities, sure, I overdid it, and even had my share of drunken nights on stage with cover bands. But nothing near the level that Elle is performing at. She is one heck of a talent, and I really do like her, and enjoy her music.

I hope she slows her roll a bit…

If nothing else, because taking care of a toddler with a hangover can’t be fun. Her son is about the same age as mine, and I can’t even imagine!

Then again, isn’t a double standard? Some of Country’s greats were complete hot messes- Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Willie, Waylon, the list goes on and on… and they were WAYYYY worse than the shennanigans Elle has been up to these past few weeks.

Except they’re men, and they can get away with it.

What do you think?

Does Elle need to slow it down a bit?

Or should she be able to have her fun as long as she’s not hurting anyone?

Dolly Parton “Sweet Dreams”

The iconic Dolly Parton is 78 today!

And to celebrate her birthday, she just released a Deluxe Version of her “Rockstar” albuym featuring some new reimagined tracks, like “Sweet Dreams” by The Eurythmics:

Ok, how cool was that? Haunting and creepy, and still has the rock edge and those stellar Dolly vocals. Honestly, I think that is one of my favorite verisons of that song.

She also released a version of “Bridge Over Troubled Water”:

Annnnnddd… a version of Eddie Money’s “Two Tickets to Paradise”!

Overall, she has nine new tracks on the Deluxe version of her “Rockstar” album, which is available now.

Happy Birthday, Dolly!

QUEEEEEEEEEENNNNNN!!!!

Carly Pearce “We Don’t Even Fight Anymore” Live Acoustic Version

Carly Pearce is one of the best vocalists in Country Music right now, and she has once again proven why in a gorgeous acoustic version of her latest single “We Don’t Even Fight Anymore”.

It’s a song that she shares with Chris Stapleon, but this version that she just released shows that she doesn’t even need Chris’s incredible vocals to make it special.

Also, apparantly she did it in one take?

Masterful.

How good was that, though?nail

I’ve got goosebumps over here.

Carly Pearce is a legend in the making, and I love that she can nail a song and make it come to life with all of the emotion that her voice conveys.

Autotune? AI? Not necessary when you have talent like that.

Carly is teasing more new music for 2024, and like a lot of the newer female artists on the scene, this is just the beginning for her.

Luke Grimes Live Version of “Burn”

Well, color me impressed.

Luke Grimes- best known as the actor who portrays Kayce Dutton in “Yellowstone” is making quite the name for himself in the Country Music world, which is even further solidified with his live version of “Burn” during a recent Spotify Outside Session.

Check this out:

I love the simplicity of his music, which a good bit of it he has written or co-written.

If you haven’t heard the studio verison, here you go:

So, so good.

All of his music sounds like it could be featured on he “Yellowstone” soundtrack- and some of it is!

Luke’s debut EP “Pain Pils or Pews” is out now, and you get get more info and dates at http://lukegrimes.com
