Renzo Performing Aerosmith’s “Dream On” on “The Voice”

This is really impressive.

I’m just now getting back to watching singing reality competition shows after a long hiatus as my 3-year-old son loves them, and I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by this guy Renzo on Season 28 of “The Voice’>

Covering Aersomith’s “Dream On” is a tall order for ANYONE, even Steven Tyler himself. Come to think of it, that’s probably how he destroyed his own vocal chords…

Anyhow, I was prepared to feel “meh” about this performance, as I have never really seen a great version other than the original, but holy moly, Renzo just nailed the bajeebus out of this song. (Is that even a word? It is now)

The high notes at the end are next freaking level.

Wait for it…

Impressive, right?

I haven’t watched much of Season 27, but if there is anyone better than that, well, hot damn.

The Season 27 Finale of “The Voice” is next Tuesday, May 20th on NBC, and I hope this guy makes it all the way.

With those notes? How could he not?

Reba McEntire, Lainey Wilson and Miranda Lambert “Trailblazer”

Did you watch the ACM Awards last night?

So many great performances, and this was easily my favorite… Reba McEntire, Lainey Wilson and Miranda Lambert on a song together?

Yes.

SO MUCH YES.

Check out their performance of “Trailblazer” below:

Aaaaah!!!! My heart is so happy just now.

Here’s the actual studio version:

Well done, ladies.

Reba was one of my favorites growing up, and Lainey and Miranda are some of my modern loves, so you know I’m all for this.

Thank you for blazing trails.

Now I’m gonna hop on my Palomino and go blaze some, too.

Morgan Wallen “Superman”

Morgan Wallen is gearing up to release his new album “I’m the Problem”, which comes out one week from today (May 16th). He’s been dropping tracks off of it for months, and the latest offering off of the upcoming 37 song project is his first song that addresses his son Indigo, and it’s one I think may dads (and moms) can relate to.

Check out “Superman”:

Damn. That’s a good one. Much better than songs like his biggest hit “Last Night”.

I love that he keeps it real and admits his mistakes, which, let’s be real, we all make them. His mistakes are just magnified as he’s one of the biggest names in music. He’s human, and at least he seems to be trying to stay on right track this time.

Again, Morgan Wallen’s new album “I’m the Problem” drops May 16th, and you know it’s going to be the biggest album of the year, like it or not.

Morgan is also hitting the road with an all-star lineup this year, and you can get the dates and info here: http://morganwallen.com

ERNEST Feat. Miranda Lambert “Another Thing to Love”

This was a nice surprise today…

ERNEST has teamed up with one of my favorite artists Miranda Lambert for a collab that is Country to the core.

Sadly, you can’t say that about a lot of Country music these days, but this you can.

The song is called “Another Thing to Love” and, yes, I do love it:

Really, though, you can’t go wrong with Miranda involves, am I right?

Also, ERNEST is one of the hottest up-and-comers in the industry, and has several hits under his belt with collabs like “Flower Shops” and “Cowgirls”, both with Morgan Wallen, and his songwriting game is strong.

Yeah, you’ll be hearing from him for a while, which is a good thing.

Check out his latest release “Cadillac Sessions” out now, and get info, tour dates, etc. at ernestoffical.com

Kelly Clarkson “Where Have You Been”

Kelly Clarkson just made Friday that much better by giving us a beautiful new song called “Where Have You Been”

Unlike a lot of her music as of late, this song is actually positive and uplifting, and was actually inspired by a scene in the tv show “Only Murders in the Building” where Martin Short’s character said “Where have you been?” in wonderment to Meryl Streep’s character.

Kelly thought it was the sweetest thing, so she wrote a song inspired by the scene:

Isn’t that pretty? I think this is definitely one of my favorite songs that Kelly has released in a long time.

It’s also off of her new label “High Road Records” and I’m guessing we’ll get a new full-length album soon.

Stay tuned!

Postmodern Jukebox “Die With a Smile”

Well, this made my day.

I LOVE, love, love Postmodern Jukebox, and I love the song “Die With a Smile” by Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars.

So, when PMJ dropped their version of the hit today, I couldn’t get to YouTube fast enough.

Check out this 1940’s Girl Trio version of “Die With a Smile”.

It’s perfect:

I think this may be one of my favorite re-imaginings yet from PMJ.

Everything… the vocals, music, structure… it’s magic.

Also, my three-year-old son is now obsessed and is demanding it nonstop.

Raising him right.

Have fun with that rabbit hole!

Ed Sheeran “Old Phone”

Ed Sheeran just released a nostalgic new song off of his upcoming album “Play” called “Old Phone”, and it’s definitely one to make you stop and think…

Another winner from Ed… and he also announced that his upcoming album “Play” will be out on September 12th.

Between this and his hit single “Azizam”, I have a feeling it’s going to be one of his best.

Carrie Underwood Performs “Alone” on “American Idol”

Ok, so I know I’ve sharing a lot of Carrie Underwood performances lately, but she’s so damn good, that I can’t help myself.

Other artists need to be stepping up their game, ok?

Last night on “American Idol”, which, yes, I am watching again sometimes as my 3-year-old son loves it, Carrie Underwood performed Heart’s “Alone” twenty years after her iconic performance on the show when she was a contestant.

And, naturally, she killed it:

Damn.

Aging like a fine wine, physically and vocally.

Remember two decades ago (yes, it’s been that long. Oof.) when she performed it and blew Simon Cowell away?

I remember seeing this live.

Hot damn, she’s come a long way. But even then, she was a star.

Just wanted to throw some CU vocal (and leg) appreciation out there!

Shaboozey and Jelly Roll “Amen”

Happy Friday!

Of course, Friday is when all the new music for the week drops, and I was pleasantly surprised by the Shaboozey/Jelly Roll collab called “Amen”.

It’s off of Shaboozey’s “Where I’ve Been, Isn’t Where I’m Going: The Complete Edition” which came out this morning.

It’s a pretty good tune. Catchy, easy to listen to, and has some pretty solid, profound lyrics:

We could all use a little mercy, right?

Honestly, I like it.

It’s like I could pray to it and two-step to it at the same time.

Multitasking, ya’ll.

Carrie Underwood “How Great Thou Art”

Since yesterday was Easter Sunday, “American Idol” did a 3-hour special called “American Idol: Songs of Faith”, and the performance that’s getting the most attention?

Carrie Underwood’s chill bump-inducing rendition of “How Great Thou Art”:

Woaaahhhh…

I’m not the most religious person on the planet, but that one is taking me right to church!

Just wanted to share that with you in case you missed it.

You’re welome.

Carrie Underwood’s talent is unmatched.
