It happens every few years.
Some major publication comes up with a list of the “Best Songs of (Insert) Decade”, and people aregue over it.
The latest to partake is “Equire”, with their list of “The Best Songs of the 90’s”.
Not really sure what they’re basing it on… opinion, I guess?
Anyhow, here’s the Top 10 “Best Songs of the 90’s” according to “Esquire”:
1. “Smells Like Teen Spirit”, Nirvana
2. “Fantasy (Remix)”, Mariah Carey
3. “Nuthin’ But a ‘G’ Thang”, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg
4. “[Eff] and Run”, Liz Phair

Now, obviously, “Smells Like Team Spirit” is #1, because it literally defined a generation.
But the rest of the Top 10? “Wonderwall” is great, but the others don’t hit me as Top 10 material. I’d definitely have “You Oughta Know” by Alanis Morissette in the Top 10 for sure, as well as “Just a Girl” by No Doubt and “Killing Me Softly” by The Fugees.
Then again, those songs defined the 90’s for me.
That’s what’s so great about music- it’s personal, and everyone experiences it differently.
What do YOU think the “Best” Song of the 90’s is?
